Fred Astaire North Canton Frequently Asked Questions
Cost Of Lessons & Getting
Started
The North Canton Ballroom offers all
types of dance instruction - from ballroom to
salsa to nightclub dancing, as
well as customized wedding programs
and competition level - for all ages
and abilities through private, group, and practice lessons.
Do I need a partner?
No.
We teach both singles and couples here at the Fred Astaire
North Canton Ballroom. If you come in as one of our single students, your
instructor will be your partner for your private lessons, and our groups and
practice sessions will provide plenty of opportunity to meet other students with
the same interests and goals.
What is a private lesson?
Private lessons consist
of one student or couple working with one instructor.
These lessons provide the most benefit and ease for learning to dance since all
material is catered to the individuals learning ability and desire.
What is a group lesson?
A group lesson
consists of several students learning from one instructor. Students
work primarily on basic steps and technique. Our group classes cover a wide
level of dancing providing all levels of students with the opportunity to join
our classes.
What is a practice dance session?
Our
practice dance sessions prepare you for dancing socially and allow you
to apply material learned in your lessons without the pressure of the public eye
upon you. Our students attend to have fun, learn, and dance! Students have the
opportunity to dance and meet other students, as well as the instructors. Check
the calendar to find this months schedule.
What do we teach?
Our goal is to prepare you to
dance with confidence in any social situation. Our American-style curriculum
consists of basic dances that will allow you to dance anywhere, with
anyone, on any occasion. The most common American-style dances are Foxtrot,
Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha-Cha, and Eastern Swing, with Samba, Mambo, Merengue,
Western Swing, Bolero, Viennese Waltz, and Paso Doble also available.
How should I dress for my lesson?
Wear
something comfortable that won't inhibit movement. Of course,
comfortable shoes are recommended. We suggest a pair of leather-soled shoes for
gentlemen and a shoe with a back for the ladies.
Is it difficult to learn to
dance?
No. Our system of
instruction makes it easy to learn. It will take time to master the various
dances and a repertoire of steps. However, the learning is easy and fun. A
steady approach with periodic practice will produce visible results in a short
period.
